Workers Compensation Appeal Tribunal

The Workers’ Compensation Appeal Tribunal (WCAT) processes appeals about WorkSafeBC decisions. WCAT serves all communities in B.C. Our office is located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ speaking Musqueam people, and our work spans the traditional territories of 198 First Nations and 38 Métis chartered communities across B.C. We honour all our hosts and their welcome and graciousness toward our work and the people we serve.

  • MRPP Now Available on Webpages

    The Manual of Rules of Practice and Procedure (MRPP) is now available on webpages in addition to the PDF format. You may view it here or by selecting the new button on the Resources page.

  • Translations

    Our website now includes translations for the Appeal a decision, Respond to an appeal, About WCAT, and Contact Us pages in Simplified Chinese, Punjabi, and Farsi. If a translation is available, a link will appear for each language at the top of the English-language page.

  • WCAT COVID-19 response and safety plan

    WCAT remains open and fully operational. We have taken steps to protect the health of parties, staff and the public, while ensuring the tribunal continues to operate as naturally as possible. WCAT’s COVID-19 response and safety plan includes enhanced measures to improve personal safety and prevent any risk of exposure to COVID-19.

    Oral hearings. Oral hearings are continuing by video conference. If it’s not possible to complete your hearing by video conference, it may be done by phone or in-person. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and willingness to make adjustments so that hearings can proceed. Find out more about attending an oral hearing.

    Ask for more time. You can ask for an extension of time if you were unable to meet the deadline for giving notice to start an appeal because of the COVID-19 pandemic or any other special circumstances. If you need more time to complete submissions or provide evidence, you can phone WCAT to request an extra 14 days or send a written request to WCAT that explains why you need more than 14 days (to a maximum of 45 days). Make sure to include your appeal number with your request. If you need more than 45 days, you will need to provide reasons, including those related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
