Noteworthy Decisions

WCAT is a high volume tribunal. We decide thousands of appeals each year. Given the size of our decisions database, it is sometimes difficult to conduct useful searches. Therefore WCAT staff have selected certain decisions to be designated as noteworthy decisions. Noteworthy decisions fall into two distinct categories:

• they may provide significant commentary or interpretive guidance regarding workers' compensation law or policy, or comment on important issues related to WCAT procedure; or
• they may serve as general examples of the application of the Workers Compensation Act and regulations, Board policies, or various adjudicative principles.

Noteworthy decisions are not binding on WCAT. Although WCAT panels may refer to and follow them, they are not necessarily intended to be leading decisions. It is open to WCAT panels to consider any previous WCAT decision when deciding an appeal.

WCAT staff have summarized each noteworthy decision. These summaries do not form part of the decision.
